On November 23, 2025, our school invited Professor Zhang Weinian from Sichuan University, a recipient of the National Distinguished Young Investigator Fund, to conduct a forum on the construction and development of the mathematics discipline. Shi Hongjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of the school, Chen Xiangbai, Dean, Li Yuanyuan, Vice Dean, as well as representatives of mathematics discipline teachers including Dai Zuxu, Zhang Wei, and Yao Yong attended the meeting.

First of all, the school leaders extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to Professor Zhang Weinian for his visit. They gave a detailed introduction to the current development status of the mathematics discipline in the school, including the progress made in faculty team building, scientific research, talent training and other aspects in recent years. At the same time, they analyzed the main bottlenecks and challenges facing the current discipline development, and expressed the urgent desire to draw on the wisdom of experts, build consensus and promote the development of the discipline.
Combining his rich experience in scientific research, teaching and management, Professor Zhang Weinian put forward systematic and pertinent suggestions on the construction and development of the mathematics discipline in the school. He first emphasized the strategic path of taking the application for academic degree programs as the starting point, systematically planning, integrating resources, highlighting characteristics, and thereby driving the overall improvement of the discipline level. Regarding the handling of the relationship between teaching and scientific research, he clearly proposed the concept of feeding and driving high-quality teaching with high-level scientific research. In terms of talent training and introduction, Professor Zhang Weinian suggested adhering to the simultaneous promotion of introduction and cultivation: on the one hand, striving to introduce high-level talents who are in line with the development direction of the discipline; on the other hand, focusing on the training and support of internal young teachers, and creating a good ecology conducive to talents standing out and working with peace of mind. Professor Zhang Weinian's constructive opinions were insightful and high-level, providing clear ideas and valuable references for the next development of the mathematics discipline in the school.
The successful holding of this forum not only injected new ideological vitality into the development of the mathematics discipline in the School of Mathematics and Physics, but also further strengthened academic exchanges and cooperation with well-known scholars from high-level universities. The school will carefully sort out and absorb Professor Zhang Weinian's opinions and suggestions, take this opportunity to gather strength, clarify key points, and steadily promote the connotation construction of the mathematics discipline in talent training, scientific research, social services and other aspects, striving to push the discipline development to a new level.
