Training Objectives

The Energy and Power Engineering major aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals with high professional qualities and innovative capabilities, focusing on developing technical talents with solid theoretical and professional knowledge in the field of energy and power engineering. The goal is to train advanced research and technical talents with pioneering awareness and international vision for scientific research, product development, engineering application, and production management in the related fields of energy and power engineering.

After four years of study, students will acquire the following knowledge, abilities, and qualities:

1) Knowledge: Systematically master the relevant theoretical knowledge in the field of energy and power engineering, including solid mathematical and physical foundations, professional knowledge in energy and power, and theoretical knowledge required for engineering design and software development.

2) Abilities: Be proficient in a foreign language, capable of reading professional literature, and have certain listening and speaking skills; possess strong self-study, expression, and problem-solving abilities. Be able to apply learned knowledge to model and conduct mathematical analysis of complex energy and power engineering problems, and have certain capabilities in scientific research, engineering design, and product development.

3) Qualities: Students should have comprehensive qualities in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and aesthetics, with good humanistic qualities, teamwork spirit and cooperation awareness, project practice ability, and innovative consciousness, etc.

Professional Characteristics

The Energy and Power Engineering major of Wuhan Institute of Technology is a key discipline in Hubei Province, one of the first advantageous disciplines in Hubei Province, and a discipline with a "Chutian Scholar" position. It is a first-level discipline master's degree point in "Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics". It is a discipline with the characteristics of cultivating talents in energy, power, new energy, energy storage technology, refrigeration and cryogenics. It has significant influence in Hubei Province, Central South China, and South China. The professional feature is the emphasis on the intersection and integration of disciplines, such as the integration of power machinery and energy storage technology for pumped storage power stations, the integration of hydrogen energy and fuel cell energy storage technology, the integration of traditional energy and new energy, the integration of heat transfer technology and electronic device cooling, the integration of refrigeration technology and large data centers, and the integration of phase change materials and energy storage technology, etc. The comprehensive talents cultivated by this major have unique advantages in employment and further studies and enjoy a high reputation at home and abroad.

VII. Student Awards:

The Energy and Power Engineering major attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovation ability, strengthens educational and teaching management, and strives to cultivate and expand students' abilities in multiple aspects, forming a fine academic atmosphere of diligence, rigor, truth-seeking and innovation. Through continuous and active organization and guidance for students to participate in various national large-scale competitions, students have achieved remarkable results in innovation and entrepreneurship, Internet Plus, subject competitions, and professional competitions. In the past five years, they have won 16 national awards and 32 provincial awards in various domestic and international competitions.

VIII. Employment Destinations:

The Energy and Power Engineering major has a wide range of applications and has always been one of the top three majors in terms of employment rate in Chinese universities. The teaching plan of our university's Energy and Power Engineering major focuses on broad applications. The destinations of graduates over the years can be mainly divided into the following three categories:

1) Further Studies

Students in this major have a relatively high rate of going abroad and taking the postgraduate entrance examination. Every year, many students go abroad or take the postgraduate entrance examination for further studies, with the rate remaining above 30%.

2) Employment

The employment scope of this major is wide. Generally speaking, it can be divided into the following fields:

① Entering state-owned power generation enterprises, such as Huadian, Huaneng, CGN, etc., to engage in the power generation industry;

② Entering large manufacturing enterprises, such as Midea, Gree, Haier, Hisense, McQuay, etc., to engage in equipment manufacturing or sales;

③ Entering engineering companies, such as China State Construction, China Power Construction, China Railway, China Metallurgical Group, etc., to engage in engineering design and management;

④ Entering design institutes, such as China Five Ring, Huakang Century, etc., to engage in engineering design and construction;
